The coronavirus pandemic has affected our lives, our economy and nearly every corner of the globe. A global surge in cases has leveled off after two months of growth, but the world is still averaging about 540,000 new cases and almost 9,000 deaths per day, high enough to strain health systems in many countries. More than 5.88 billion vaccine doses have been administered worldwide, or 77 for every 100 people, but there is a stark gap between the levels in wealthier and poorer countries.
